Jacob Wiegand is a photojournalist and photo editor based in St. Louis, Missouri. He is available for freelance assignments when he isn’t covering Catholic life in the Archdiocese of St. Louis for the St. Louis Review newspaper and Catholic St. Louis magazine.
He has also held various staff and editor roles, including two semesters as photo and multimedia editor, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s student newspaper and news website, the Daily Egyptian.
While taking a moments-based approach to his photography, the SIUC alumnus places a strong emphasis on the importance of feature storytelling believing chronicles of everyday life and regular people are of high value.
Jacob was named Catholic Media Association’s Photographer of the Year for images he took in 2022 covering Catholic life in the Archdiocese of St. Louis for the St. Louis Review.
He was also named the National Press Photographers Association’s 2017 Student Quarterly Clip Contest Photographer of the Year and was the 2016 runner-up for the same contest.
His work has earned awards in other photojournalism contests including: the NPPA’s Monthly Clip Contest, College Photographer of the Year, the Missouri Press Association's Better Newspaper Contest and the Indiana News Photographers Association’s Monthly Clip Contest.
